Join Friar Terence Bateman, OFM Conv for a talk on St. Francis, as 2026 marks the 800th anniversary of his death. There will be a one-hour talk focused on the moments of conversion in St. Francis’s life, followed by a short Q & A session.
Friar Terence Bateman OFM Conv was ordained to the priesthood in 1995 for the Archdiocese of Johannesburg in South Africa. He ministered in parishes in Soweto, the inner city, and the suburbs, while also teaching at a Catholic high school and the Seminary. In 2007, he went to Belgium to study at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Louvain) where he graduated with a PhD in Systemic Theology and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology. He lectured at St. Augustine College of South Africa before moving to the United Kingdom where he entered the Franciscan Friars Conventual. He has come to the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua in Ellicott City from Liverpool, UK, where he was parish priest of St. Anthony of Padua parish in Mossley Hill. Over the years, he has engaged in pastoral ministry and teaching and found joy in retreat ministry and spiritual direction.
